Cynthia McKinney earned a Bachelor of Arts in international relations from the University of Southern California in 1978 and a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from Tufts University.



Since being elected in 1992 as the first African-American Congresswoman from Georgia, she has sat on both the Armed Services Committee and the Budget Committee, and throughout her six terms in Congress has been a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, the Progressive Caucus. She has worked closely with the Hispanic Caucus and the newly formed Tri-Caucus.











Civil rights:



"We need repeal of the Patriot Acts, the Secret Evidence Act, the Military Commissions Act, and other legislation that rolls back bedrock civil liberties."
